A little packaging guidance

Give your product a proper fit

Listed pouch dimensions describe the exterior. Seals, a zipper and filling space reduce the usable area; product shape and bulk density affect capacity. Check the actual fill rather than assigning one ounce capacity to every product.

Test the filled package

  1. Choose the actual product and target fill amount. Include any variation in piece size.
  2. Allow room for the filling method, headspace and the final top seal. Keep product out of the seal area.
  3. Check the closure, filled profile and intended shelf or hook presentation.
  4. Run the package through the real sealing and packing process, then review representative finished packs.

Read the dimensions correctly

Stand-up dimensions are width × height × bottom gusset. Lay-flat dimensions are width × height. These are the supplier-listed sizes in the current configurator. Feature availability varies by size and is checked as you select.

An example worth checking

A trail mix with large clusters may need more opening clearance than finely ground seasoning at the same fill weight. Start with each product’s actual filled volume and trial packing rather than copying the size from another product.
